CDS Selection Procedure Details: CDS Selection Process Description: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is going to organize the Combined Defense Service (CDS) Examination for the recruitment of various vacancies under the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officer Training Academy. The selection process details to apply for the Combined Defense Services Examination are as follows –

There are three steps in the UPSC selection process.

  • Written Examination
  • Interview / Intelligence Testing / Personality Testing
  • Document Verification
  • Medical examination

CDS Selection Procedure Details

1. Written Examination:

CDS Selection Procedure Details– Objective type questions and time duration in the written examination are 2 hours and maximum marks are 100 for each subject.

Candidates who join the Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy Written Examination, include English, General Knowledge and Primary Mathematical Subjects for them, and candidates who are trained in English and General Knowledge Written Examination in Academy.
iii. Candidates, who have been declared successful in the written examination, will be expanded for the purpose of intelligence and personality test in the service selection board on the basis of their choice by the respective service headquarters.

2. Interview / Personality Test:

Selected candidates in the written examination are called for an interview. The SSB process includes two-phase selection process-stage I and stages II. Only those candidates who clarify Phase II are allowed to appear for Phase II.

  • Stage I includes Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests are the Picture Detail Details Test (PP & DT). Candidates will be shortlisted based on the combination of performance in OIR test and PP & DT.
  • Stage II includes interviews, group test officer work, psychology test and conference. These tests are conducted in 4 days.

The personality of the candidate is assessed by three different evaluators. Interview Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO) and Psychologist. There are no separate weights for each test. Issues are allocated by the evaluators keeping in mind the performance of the candidates in all examinations.

3. Document verification:

Document verification will be conducted only after the candidate’s qualification for interview/personality test.

4. Medical Examination:

A candidate recommended by the Service Selection Board will have to undergo a medical examination by medical service officers. Female candidates will have to undergo a medical examination by a medical board, in which men/women doctors/specialists/gynecologist will be involved. As a member of the board, there will be a Lady Medical Officer. Only those candidates will be admitted to the academy, which has been declared fit by the medical board.
